That’s why our team at Hear Clear Canada is dedicated to helping you find the solution you need to address these frustrating sounds and get the relief you need and deserve!

What Causes Tinnitus?

One of the challenges of tinnitus is that many different things can cause it. It’s often symptomatic of an underlying condition, such as:

  • Hearing loss
  • Earwax blockage or buildup
  • Injuries to the head or neck
  • Abnormal bone growth
  • Medication
  • Ageing
  • Vascular disorders
  • Stress or depression

We’ll help you figure out what’s causing your tinnitus by evaluating your medical history and completing a thorough examination. This will give us the information we need to recommend a treatment that can address your unique situation.

Treating Tinnitus

There are several ways to treat tinnitus. We take a closer look at some of the most popular methods below:

Sound Therapy

Sound therapy is the practise of using sounds to help the brain refocus. The idea is that by teaching the brain to focus on things besides your tinnitus, the emotional impact of the unwanted noise will be lessened. This can make it easier to live your life and enjoy your hobbies by making the tinnitus feel less pronounced.

Hearing Aids

Another popular treatment for tinnitus is being fitted with the proper hearing aids. This may be an option for you even if you don’t have co-occurring hearing loss because many modern hearing aids can be equipped with a tinnitus-masking feature. This blocks out tinnitus noises so you get much-needed relief.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)

Finally, your hearing professional may also recommend tinnitus retraining therapy, which is also sometimes called habituation therapy. This treatment retrains the brain so that it starts to perceive your tinnitus in a different way.

Behaviour therapy may also be included in a TRT plan. The purpose of this would be to help you identify and deal with the emotions that your tinnitus has caused, such as stress, anger or depression.

Regardless of the treatment we recommend, our team will continue following up with you to provide ongoing maintenance support. This may include ongoing therapies or help with managing the underlying disorders that caused your tinnitus.
